Has anyone experienced pronounced aggression from their dog? I have a deaf Pomeranian mix and he is already snippy if we startle him. Now he attacks my husband if he comes too close to me. His scratching so much he is raw. My poor baby.

Sorry, but vaccines can only do harm. Pure poison. Stay away. Only the body can heal - human or canine.

I understand that you are a vet but there is research out there proving that Apoquel causes abdominal tumors! This is not being disclosed to people and therefore they cannot make an informed decision. Vets like you make me sick!!! How can you sit there and watch peoples animals died from medications YOU are prescribing! They should take your license away!!!!

How did your dogs come into contact with mice? Did you not change their water daily? Or did they drink from a source the mice were in? If so was there a way you could have prevented that? Or had they gotten into the dogs' food in a container? If so why wasn't it discarded? Lepto from my understanding is spread by dogs drinking water or consuming something rats have urinated in. I don't think there had to be "stress" I believe it can occur regardless. Even people can get Lepto if a grill isn't cleaned and food prepared rats have peed on. (They move inside rarely used outdoor grills.) Living in FL we have rats inhabiting the palm trees. Rats usually only come out at night and definitely not anywhere the dogs are in daytime. I have 2 outside water bowls mounted on the fence connected to water lines so they fill automatically. I empty both in early a.m. before letting dogs out to ensure they don't drink water a rat may have peed in. I rescue so have dogs in/out all the time and Lepto is prevalent here and all vets recommend it. As my dogs are safe from it i don't give it as the vaccine is harsh & known to make dogs ill. Fosters are given a 1x combo vaccine minus Lepto and rabies by law. I then advise adopters NOT to vaccinate as 1 vaccine in adult dogs should last for life. If not comfortable to run a titer first. I also before adopting educate about Lepto and advise giving it ONLY if they have rats (i.e. live in rural or farm area dogs might somehow get into an unsafe water source.) Every neighborhood has rats but if adopter feels dog has no chance of contact like mine I tell them to ignore vet's advice to give it. I do give vaccines to puppies as distemper & parvo are rampant here and puppies particularly susceptible. Harder for them to overcome disease than an adult unvaccinated dog. I also advise keeping collar on 24/7 with ID tag and all dogs are microchipped prior to adoption. I then tell adopters which is against the law but lifesaving to NOT register the dog with the county or they'll be forced to give rabies for the dog's life. A small fine is levied if county finds out and forces registration making it worth it in the long run for both the owner and their pet. Anyone who has seen polio or tetanus will realise that these accusations are wild. Percentage wise most people will be fine without vaccination. Just because you didn't get vaccinated and didn't get ill hardly clarifies anything. Read a scientific double blinded study and learn how to assess scientific articles rather than reading blogs.
I see dogs dying or Parvo virus daily, EASILY prevented via vaccination. I also use Apoquel on a daily basis for my patients. I have not seena single negative side effect. It is a janus kinase inhibitor, not an antiinflammatory, nor a steroid. It is a drug in a class of its own shown to be safe and not cause immunosupression. If you don't like it, don't use it, but if you can't sort out that itching another way you are a negligent owner as you are causing undue stress and pain to your animal. Yes iotching has an underlying cause, but if your dog is allergic to a certain grass then good luck avoiding that for their whole life.
Find the cause, address the cause, use medication when NEEDED to alleviate suffering and buy time to address the underlying issue. If it is unavoidable then it is safe to use long-term. Argue that if you will but when your alternatives are suffering or steroids you choose the lesser of the evils. No I don't work for any drug company, I am an experienced veterinarian who has studied alternative medicines but prefers a scientific based approach.
Don't google medications - talk to your vet.

Dear Barb Campbell I am very interested in your story. My dog has allergies as well and our former vet put him on apoquel three separate times in the last year. He is 7 years old and a very healthy happy dog and he too now has lymphoma, diagnosed almost a year to the day as his first apoquel prescription. It's hard to even talk about without getting upset. My poor dog was itching to death for months. Vet changed food, gave him cortisone. Nothing worked. Then she put him on Apoquel for a month. No improvement. I was taking him to groomer and noticed several hard masses in his throat. I ranged vets immediately. He did biopsy. My dog has lymphoma and I believe it was caused by the Apoquel. Now I am losing my best friend. What do u think about this?

I totally agree with you. I had a friend that didn't vaccinate her child and he got Polio. He lived but his quality of life is awful, he didn't derserve it. The other children were vaccinated (split marriage) and did not get it. Sorry, vaccines save lives, not in all cases but the benefit out weighs the risk. I had to get Typhoid, Yellow Fever, Polio and a booster Tetanus, along with Malaria, to go to Africa. It wasn't easy but after going and seeing the suffering of these people and children, I would never go without coverage.
As for my dogs, I get titers done on them and do not vaccinate unless necessary (there is a cost) but than I feel comfortable that I am not over vaccinating.
