I thought my precious 8 yr old yorkie mix was healthy. She was given the best of everything her entire life. She was my constant companion, my best friend, my only friend. She was happy, playing, running eating like normal on Monday 9/16/2019 and on Tuesday 9/17/2019 she died, from complications after surgery to remove a tumor on her spleen.
I trusted our local Vet when he said Emma needed multiple vaccines every year, but she would get sick the day after each time. She would get sick after heartworm meds each month. But I thought she had to have it.
Emma had an occasional problem with itching, but not a major problem. She didn’t have hot spots or lose fur. But in June 2019 our Vet recommended Cytopoint as a preventative??? I was confused because I didn’t ask for itch/scratching medication. It was like a sales pitch trying to convince me to buy something I didn’t need or ask for.
The Vet kept telling me how great this shot was and how much better it was than steroids, that it had zero side effects, it was 100% safe. He made it sound so wonderful, I finally said yes to give her the Cytopoint shot. He never told me exactly what was in this new miracle shot..

If I had known Cytopoint was a biologic and autoimmune suppressant, I would have definitely said NO!

Plus the shot did not work, Emma continued to occasionally scratch as she normally did. I planned to tell the Vet, his miracle shot was a waste of money. But I never had the chance, My sweet Emma died.

On 9/16/2019 Emma had an x-ray taken because she had been coughing. The Vet found a cyst on her spleen. She had no symptoms or problems before that day. I was told the spleen and cyst had to be removed ASAP. I was in shock, she was not sick, she seemed fine. Vet told me this surgery was very safe, 95% success rate.

So I sent my most cherished constant companion into surgery on 9/17/2019. Emma survived surgery, but 20 minutes later, she hemorrhaged and died. The most amazing dog, my perfect baby, was given back to me in a black plastic garbage bag.
I was charged $897.00 for surgery.
I am devastated beyond words.

I am now reading about veterinarians being paid off by pharmaceutical companies. There is no regulation, no disclosure! That is crazy and should not be allowed. Vets should report gifts the same as physicians. Our pets are not safe, big drug companies have taken control over the veterinarians.
