My cocker spaniel ended up with IMHA after his 3rd rabies shot. At one point we were giving this vaccine every year.. then it was every two years.. Now it is up to every THREE years! Does that tell you anything? This should have been tested like this BEFORE the release of it! My pup taught me so much about a dogs immune system. There is proof out there that after the initial rabies vaccine and the one booster.. that alone can last the LIFETIME of a dogs life! YES that is the truth! And to prove it you can get TITER testing! And we are still vaccinating every 3 years!! And we are now giving vaccines with 8 vaccines in ONE SHOT! Basically for convenience! And we are wondering why our dogs immune systems are going haywire and becoming sicker and sicker?? SMH.. And you NEVER give a rabies vaccine with any other vaccine at the same time! EVER! It should always be given by itself! Do the vets tell you that? NO! I was never told that until my cocker developed IMHA then I found out through the Chief of Staff at the emergency hospital my cocker ended up in. You wait at least a month for the immune system to normalize after any other vaccine given.. The immune system cannot handle all that CRAP at once! The vets do it for convenience and our beloved pets pay for it! All I can say is DO YOUR RESEARCH on any drug the vet prescribes before you give it to your beloved pet. If you don't like it or its side effects don't give it! Ask for a better one! Just be aware of "the newer more effective drugs". I would stay with the older reputable drugs that have been around awhile and are proven safe.. there are some out there... There are also natural alternatives ... you just have to be proactive and do the research. My dogs got their initial vaccines and will not get anymore. The only ones I give are heartworm and lyme and I don't give them according to the time frame given either and they still work fine. My one dog has a terrible itchy skin problem now as well and after giving baths with antifungal/antibacterial shampoo and conditioner and using a spray on his coat that is all natural it is working very well. I also use a oatmeal soak for him that moisturizes his skin in between baths. It takes a little longer than the harsher drugs but it is worth my dogs total health and life to me. I will never have another one of my dogs go through what my one cocker went through with the IMHA. EVER! We are overvaccinating our pets PERIOD and using drugs not fully tested on our beloved pets! And this should not happen! Just Do Your Research... Do Your Research! A few days of waiting to get all the facts before you give anything you don't know anything about is worth it! Our beloved pets are so worth it! SMH
