Great question, Wendy, and as I've been getting this more recently, I'm planning to write a post dedicated to this.
A great place to start is my free series on vaccines.
As Parvo and Distemper are the two viral diseases that can be fatal, "doing nothing" could be a recipe for disaster. When I was in practice, I rec'd homeopathic nosodes for these, which I offer here.
