I asked my vet to do a rabies titer on my dog and it came back really high, so I decided not to have him vaccinated again. The town licensing office did not accept the titer as proof, so I told them that he was sick (he had terrible allergies) and just paid the penalty fee, $10 per year. The vet office also refused to see my dog if I didn't get him vaccinated again (even though they had ordered his titer), so I found a holistic vet practice who didn't bother me with the vaccines. The only problem would have been if my dog would have been attacked by a wild animal or gotten into a fight with another dog and he was reported by someone else. Or if he would have needed medical attention for it, the first vet office said they would either quarantine him for 6 months or put him to sleep because he was not up to date on his rabies. My dog never jumped on people and I always kept him on a leash during walks, so I was willing to take the risk. My friend's dog jumped on a delivery person (did not bite) at her house and the delivery man reported it to animal control who knocked on her door the same day and asked for proof of rabies vaccination. Thankfully the dog was up to date on her 3 yr rabies vaccination.
