Hey Emily, I’m not a vet but had a Golden with a CCL tear and, based on recommendations from my traditional vet, had the TPLO surgery. Unfortunately they offered no rehab services, nor were there anywhere near me, but he seemed to recover. Fast forward about 2 years and he injured the other leg and went through surgery again.
The real and heartbreaking problems started as he got older and began experiencing severe pain and mobility issues resulting from arthritis. We did everything possible to try to alleviate this with NSAID, joint supplements, acupuncture, hyperbaric oxygen, etc.; however nothing seemed to alleviate his pain 100%.
If I had it to do over again, I wouldn’t subject him to that awful, invasive surgery but, at the time, I thought I was doing what was best for him. Instead, I would seek the assistance of a homeopathic vet, get a brace and do everything humanly possible to avoid that surgery.
