Dr Falconer, if vaccines are truly the issue, are we really supposed to just altogether skip vaccines completely? I mean, how can we do that?
I had a total mix breed dog for 13 years who I had allergy tested at 1 year old because she chewed her feet. She also developed demodectic mange at around 6 months shortly after being vaccinated. I adopted her at about 4 months, as a stray who was not claimed by anyone. So we didn't know if she'd already had vaccines. So IF she'd already had them, which we could never know for sure, she was double vaccinated, but we couldn't risk not doing it. If i had known what i know now, I could have had titers done. The expense would be worth the knowledge. The allergy treatments we had her on never really helped. By about her 5th year, I finally figured out she was mostly allergic during Aug to Dec until deep freeze happened. So I figured it must be some kind of fungus, since it was her feet. Betadine rinses seemed to help. I used to dab her paws with campho-phenique. I do think just rinsing her feet in the tub made a big difference.
Now i have an old little pomeranian mix guy I rescued from shelter in January. He goes crazy trying to reach his hind end. I have had him in to make sure his anal glands ok. Mostly they say they are good. So I am not having those checked again. He's too chubby to reach his butt. He's had 2 cytopoint injections. The first one seemed to help, the 2nd one did not. Now I just give him benadryl and CBD. It's a crapshoot. He is a stocky boy, weights 14-15 lbs. I am trying to feed him less to help him to lose weight. As for the itching it is MADDENING! It's not constant, but I don't know how a person puts up with it if it's constant. I just don't know how to help him. My vet has given me a medicated shampoo. I give him more baths than i have ever given any of my other dogs. He gets 1-3 month. I sometimes think the itching is anxiety. I have used a supplement for anxiety, called L-theanine. Need to just go back to that and stinging nettles. I had his blood tested for allergies, with a company ran by Dr Dodd, and results said he's highly allergic to dust mites. I try to keep my home clean, but really!? I haven't had the food tested. Is that possible. Dr Dodd's company does it, but my vet said there is not really a good test for that. I can't seem to be disciplined enough to eliminate all foods except one at a time for my guy.
