I have a rescue dog that’s insanely itchy 24/7. It is maddening and I try to get her the cytopoint shot every 5-6 weeks but sometimes it takes longer to get in to see the vet. When the shot wears off she goes from normal to crazy itchy and bleeding and scratching her hair off of everywhere. She does well on apoquel but I only keep her on it for a week or 2 in between her cytopoint shots just because she is so uncomfortable. I have tried everything from every diff food including prescription food to even moving over 100 miles away to a diff part of the state because I thought it was environmental or the well water I had on my property. I have tried everything and nothing works. We’ve tried about 10 diff antibiotics and antifungls, and a lot of other stuff the vet has recommended including blood tests. Nothing helps but the shot or apoquel and I don’t want to have to have her on this stuff for life. What can we do if it’s not food, environment, or fleas? This is why people use apoquel because they are at the end of their rope and can’t stand to see their pet suffer 24/7 anymore. If I had to scratch myself bloody to try to get rid of an itch 24/7 I’d prob want to die. I can only hope my dog is stronger then I’d be.

Sadly my dog is going down from CYTOPOINT SHOT. She has IMHA now and is slowing down.. This has made me sick.

My 10 year old Doberman has a very bad reaction to flea bites. Have tried everything, Advantix II, Frontline, etc. Sprayed the yard. Long story short Axel was on Apoquel, but the vet told me he could only take it for 2 weeks. Worked great, now that he has been off of it for a week we are back at square one. It can't be the vaccines, I am so with you on those, Axel has had only one rabies shot in his life.

Do allergy testing on your dogs and find out what they are allergic to. Simple blood test. I have a boxer who is allergic to many, many things. The only kind of meat she's not allergic to is Lamb. If you read the ingredients on the bag of food and don't feed them any food or treats that they are allergic to and try to avoid the environmental things that they are allergic to you are doing the best you can do. My dog has been on Apoquil for 2 years and it has made her quality of life so much better. She's had NO issues from it. The reason dogs are having problems with allergies is because of irresponsible breeding, passing down allergy problems. My dog is current on her vaccinations and is totally happy and healthy. If not for the Apoquil she would continue to be miserable. Use some common sense people. People have allergies and so do dogs and allergies are passed down to their offspring. Don't breed a dog that has a history of allergies.

i gave my dog a 3 yr rabies vac the summer before last.........since then hes had this"seasonal allergy. I just took him to another vet who put him on Apoquel . It basically knocked him out for a couple of hours(no scratching then) but he would shake uncontrollably like he was so cold.. Hes very lethargic now and just sleeps. I finally quit giving it to him today after he had one spell of shaking which i realized wasnt from cold at all.i wrapped him in a blanket and held him against me but no matter what he still shook and just kept looking at me with those eyes that said "MOMMMMMMMMMM' make it stop' . I called the vet and reported the symptons and said hes done taking those pills... After researching bout it, I wish now I had never started it. He only had about 10 pills but the shaking started immediately but the scratching never stopped like they said it would and in fact the inside of his legs got beet red and little blisters. Im so sick of vets and medical people putting us and our animals on meds that are so detrimental to our health.... anyone that thinks vaccines are safe needs to do some research ........big time...the medical profession has its place but the pharmaceutical is out of control

Im so sadend , our dog of 13 yrs had to be put down last night after a severe seizure that he just didnt come out of , after starting him on apoquel about a week ago for severe allergies as well as antiobiotic and pain meds he stopped scatching within the first day. But then became a bit more disoriented and starring at walls and noticed after the apoguel he would moan for like 10 minutes or so and top of head felt tremerly , called vet asking if could be a start to a seizure ,said has never known that as a side affect so i continued even though i felt? My dog was on this for several months. He was doing fine on it and did feel some relief. On a follow up appointment with the vet, he was accidentally given double the dose. 2 days later he was weak and falling over. I stopped the medication and took him to the vet. He was diagnosed with insulinoma and put on steroids. I think the over dosing of this medication caused him to go on this downward spiral.

I can't believe there are still people out there that believe vaccines are BAD! How can you even begin to think such a thing?? How do you think humans have been able to live such long lives?? You are right! I stopped all vaccinations (except for rabies, unfortunately).

My question is WHY the need to be on the drug for life?! These poor pets likely only need to clear up what is causing the allergen so short term usage required - household products such as carpet cleaner or perfumed laundry detergent on towels/bedding, bathing shampoo with oatmeal will cause itch for those dogs with yeast infections or grain allergies (oatmeal IS a grain), yard pesticide/fertizliers, and food allergens - most dogs should avoid chicken, corn, grains. Can we believe this drug to be safe for short term usage? (weeks to a couple months tops?)

I have 1 dog and 2 cats. My one dog and one cat are vaccinated with chronic issues but my 11 year old cat that has never been vaccinated has never had issues. So by experience with my own animals id have to agree!

My pom has been on Apoquel for 40 days. He has been coughing a lot and licks his paws almost constantly when he is awake. This is something he did not do until on this medication. He also sleeps a great deal. Of course, he is 18 yrs. old but I don't want this to shorten his life.

My dogs need 0 shots per lifetime.
